OLD AMERICAN chosen to Deliver Technology to Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA)

Proof of Concept for Hadoop open-source software framework for storage and large-scale processing of data-sets on clusters of commodity hardware.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –Wilmington, DE & Newport Beach, CA – September 18, 2014: Old American Incorporated, a uniquely qualified Premiere Hewlett Packard and IBM Business Partner since 1996, has been chosen to assist BCBSA in their Proof of Concept (PoC) with Cloudera Hadoop hardware and software environment. Old American has been selling hardware, software, and service solutions around Hewlett Packard and IBM products for over 15 years. Collectively, our services team are associated with some of the largest Big Data implementations in the U.S.

According to Old American President Joe Rodriguez, “The strengths of using Hadoop to store and analyze large quantities of data is nothing new. Many companies are joining the Hadoop family. We have also seen from a distance, heard stories of where the wrong products, the wrong partners can make difference in the time to deliver the expected results.”

Old American was responsible for a software project that ‘right’ sized a DataStage environment from 7200 PVUs on an array of DB2 servers to 1400 PVUs on a dedicated Information Server. During that engagement, the consultants became familiar with data flow, privacy concerns, and key personnel at BCBSA.

Old American President Joe Rodriguez comments, “We believe as does IBM, that leveraging existing DataStage assets, during the PoC will allow the proof to prove the success BCBSA is searching for. We are invested in this success as we want BCBSA to keep all of the hardware they have purchased from us.”

Information Server (DataStage) contains technology that make linking, importing and transforming data bi-directionally to and from source data and the Hadoop File System. Not only are we aware of this technology, we train new DataStage users at General Motors how to demystify the Hadoop structures with simple DataStage jobs. The more you know about either product helps in getting command of data on both ends.

We are prepared to assume any of the roles required, whether from an architecture standpoint, or job design to heads down job creation from an on-site model to off-site options, with mentoring or testing deliverables. Our principal consultant has 4 years of experience working at the BCBS of Texas or HCSC.

We can provide countless documents to share with the client but at this point, we are confident we can be an excellent partner during this PoC and beyond.

Old American offers:

  • Turnkey Support for Hardware, Operation Systems, Software, Services and Maintenance
  • Strong Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in the Healthcare industry
  • Experience with BCBSA environment, its policies and its personnel.
  • IBM Champion level consultants in databases and DataStage
  • Teaching Mentors and practice leadership in results driven projects.
  • Hadoop and Big Insight experienced consultants of all levels
  • Local resources with strong IBM skills.
